New consignment strengthens primary healthcare delivery and renews calls for community responsibility.
The consignment, handed over in Upkwa quarter in Ghidze village, includes a modern range of hospital equipment such as baby cots, microscopes, hospital beds and mattresses. The delivery was greeted with visible excitement as residents gathered to witness what many described as a turning point for healthcare in the area.
Addressing the crowd, Wum Council Mayor, Anthony Mvo, called on the population to make responsible use of the equipment and to protect it for future generations. He stressed that the investment was meant to improve healthcare delivery not only in Upkwa but across neighbouring communities, and warned that misuse would undermine its long term impact.
The District Medical Officer for the Wum Health District, Dr Elomme Bako, welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and significant. He urged the community to take ownership of the facility and ensure the safety of the equipment, noting that proper care would directly translate into better health outcomes.
Dr Bako also used the occasion to draw attention to the centre’s remaining needs. While thanking the council and its partners for the support, he appealed for additional resources to further strengthen services at the health centre, saying sustained investment was essential to meet growing healthcare demands.
The ceremony was attended by HRH Ebua Divine Kum, Fon of Ghidze village, Alhadji Bira Kurumanjoh of Upkwa, and senior staff of the Wum Council who accompanied the Mayor.
For the people of Upkwa, the donation signals renewed attention to rural healthcare and a shared responsibility between authorities and communities to protect and maximise public investments.
