As the presidential campaign enters its final stretch, concerns about peace, unity, and stability continue to dominate conversations among Cameroonians especially within the Anglophone community. Many still remember how misinformation, fear, and false promises tore families apart and sent thousands fleeing their homes since 2016.
Hon. Ngala Gerard welcoming GuestsIn the Bonassama neighbourhood in Douala, one man is working to ensure history does not repeat itself. Hon. Ngala Gerard, Member of Parliament for Nkambe Central Constituency and one of the ruling party’s most visible grassroots mobilisers, has taken the message of peace and continuity to the North West and South West communities in Douala. Acoording to the MP, his goal is to mobilise the population around President Paul Biya’s re-election as a guarantee of stability and progress.
“We must remain united and vote for the candidate who ensures peace and development for Cameroon,” Hon. Ngala told the crowd, warning against the “false promises” that previously led many into confusion and conflict.
The meeting, held on Sunday 5 October 2025, drew together community leaders, business operators, students, and professionals originally from the North West and South West Regions. It also featured prominent figures like Dr Hervé Moby Mpah, Mayor of Douala IV, and Dr Roger Mbassa Ndine, City Mayor of Douala both stressing the importance of peace and national cohesion.
For many Anglophones now living in Douala, the crisis years are not just headlines but lived experiences. Hon. Ngala Gerald reminded the gathering how disinformation campaigns in 2016 drove thousands into hardship and displacement.

Echoing him, the Mayor of Douala IV Dr. Hervé Moby called on participants to “stand as one people, beyond politics,” insisting that unity remains the only path to a transparent and peaceful election.
The City Mayor, Dr Mbassa Ndine, added that peace is not just a slogan, but the foundation for Douala’s growth as a business and education hub.
“President Paul Biya’s leadership has preserved stability for over four decades. Without peace, there can be no development,” he said.
Douala City Mayor at the eventHon. Ngala Gerard’s mobilisation drive forms part of a broader grassroots effort to keep the peace before, during, and after the 12 October 2025 presidential election. His message goes beyond partisan appeal becoming an appeal for restraint, civic responsibility, and gratitude to the host city.
“Douala is our second home. It shelters over 500,000 North Westerners today. We must not betray that trust by allowing violence or division to take root here.” he reminded participants.
This latest mobilisation follows an earlier initiative by Hon. Ngala Gerard earlier which was the Ngondo Caravan for Peace held on 14 September 2025 where he united thousands of North Westerners and members of the Sawa community in a symbolic pact for national unity.

Beyond winning votes for the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), the campaign aims to heal community divisions and restore confidence in peaceful democratic participation.
This approach of combining personal credibility, peace advocacy, and grassroots connection is expected to help reduce post-election tensions in Douala, where displaced populations from the North West and South West often live in anxiety during elections.
As the country heads to the polls, the words of Hon. Ngala Gerard echo a deeper national sentiment of peace, once lost, must be guarded by all and that unity, not protest, is the strongest political statement voters can make.
🟦 Why this message matters
In a campaign season clouded by misinformation and rising distrust, Hon. Ngala Gerard’s call for vigilance against fake news resonates beyond party lines. As a lawmaker from conflict-hit Nkambe and a community voice in Douala, his message highlights the power of truth in preserving peace and democratic participation.
By urging Anglophone communities to verify information and reject divisive narratives, the MP is positioning civic awareness as a tool for stability. His mobilisation in Douala reflects a growing concern that disinformation could distort voter choices or reignite tensions.
In blending the language of peace with that of digital literacy, the MP’s appeal underscores a deeper truth that safeguarding the vote also means safeguarding the facts.
🟨 Campaign Pulse Insight
Hon. Ngala’s message emerges at a time when digital media has become both a campaign weapon and a battlefield for credibility. While some opposition candidates leverage online spaces for visibility, the ruling CPDM’s strategy in Douala shows a shift towards countering misinformation at the grassroots.
The MP’s dual role as mobiliser and fake news inspector fits within the party’s broader effort to secure not just votes but also confidence in the electoral process. His emphasis on truth, peace, and national unity aligns with President Paul Biya’s campaign message of stability, positioning Douala’s Anglophone community as a critical voice in the October 12 poll.
