Kuma Edison Kuh, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) sub-section president for Menchum North, has rallied behind Philemon Yang’s defence of President Paul Biya’s age, insisting that experience rather than years should guide voters in the forthcoming presidential election.
CPDM militants at the congress hallSpeaking after the CPDM campaign launch in Bamenda on Saturday 27 September, Kuma Edison said Yang had sent “a very loud and clear message” to militants and sympathisers across the region. He noted that while opposition parties were focusing their campaign attacks on the president’s age, CPDM leaders were reminding citizens of the qualities and experience Biya brings to leadership.
“Some people say they want to run the country, but they can’t even manage their own village. So how do you expect them to govern a country of about 30 million people? We should not get things twisted. What matters is experience, not age,” he stressed.
Kuma Edison Kuh speaking to HilltopvoicesKuma Edison also pointed to the opportunities being created for young people within the ruling party. He described President Biya’s leadership as a process of preparing the youth for greater responsibilities in the future. “It has been said loud and clear that the old experience is paving the way for the youth. All the seminars and workshops we are attending are to train and inform us, so that when it is our time, we will know what to do,” he said.
Calling on militants of his Menchum North section, particularly in the Bafmeng zone, he urged them to remain confident and active as the campaign heats up.
“Militants should not be afraid of anything. Let them keep doing the groundwork ahead of October 12. Victory is assured, and we are confident it will be overwhelming,” Kuma Edison said.
The CPDM is counting on strong mobilisation from grassroots leaders like Kuma Edison to secure support for President Paul Biya, who is seeking re-election against 11 other candidates in the 12 October poll.
