Samuel Hiram Iyodi Pays Tribute to Amadou Ahidjo Amid Presidential Campaign

In the heat of Cameroon’s presidential race, 37-year-old Samuel Hiram Iyodi, candidate for the Front des Démocrates Camerounais (FDC), made a symbolic stop that his party says will remain etched in the campaign’s memory.

On August 5, Samuel Hiram Iyodi visited the grave of Cameroon’s first president, Amadou Ahidjo, at the Grand Yoff Cemetery in Senegal.

“Mr Samuel Hiram Iyodi, candidate of the FDC in the 12 October 2025 presidential election, paid respects at the grave of the late President Amadou Ahidjo,” the party announced.

The youngest contender in the race, Iyodi is an engineer and Secretary-General of the Mouvement pour la Prospérité du Peuple (MP3). Endorsed by the FDC and validated by Elections Cameroon, he dreams of becoming the country’s third president.

“I am convinced that I am the next President of Cameroon… I am not going to the presidential election to make up the numbers,” he declared confidently.

After studying chemistry at the University of Buea, he pursued further studies in Quebec, where he led the association of Cameroonians in the Canadian province.

A strong advocate for recognising dual nationality, Samuel Hiram Iyodi says mobilising Cameroonians abroad is essential for national progress. His tribute to Ahidjo, a historic figure in Cameroon’s political landscape, may well be seen as an attempt to connect his youthful ambition with the country’s foundational legacy.
