CUAPWD workshop boosts disability inclusion in humanitarian response

The Coordinating Unit of Associations of Persons with Disabilities (CUAPWD) has wrapped up a two-day workshop aimed at strengthening advocacy and promoting disability inclusion within humanitarian action. The training, which follows the official launch of the Leave No One Behind (LNOB4) project on 17 July 2025, gathered leaders of organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and representatives from humanitarian clusters.

Launched by the Regional Delegate for Social Affairs, Nkwate Rebecca, the LNOB4 project is a collaborative initiative between CUAPWD and international development partner Christian Blind Mission, CBM. It seeks to ensure that persons with disabilities are not overlooked in humanitarian interventions across Cameroon.

During the workshop, participants were introduced to the scope and goals of the LNOB4 project, with training sessions covering advocacy strategies, inclusive humanitarian response frameworks, and the core principles guiding humanitarian work. Discussions also focused on international humanitarian frameworks, Cameroon’s coordination system, and the importance of monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) in disability-inclusive programming.

Throughout the two days, the atmosphere was one of high engagement, with participants actively contributing through questions, personal experiences, and solution-oriented dialogue. Organisers described the workshop as both interactive and deeply impactful, underscoring the enthusiasm and readiness of organisations of persons with disabilities, OPDs and humanitarian actors to push for inclusive practices in the field.

CUAPWD officials expressed optimism that the skills and knowledge gained will translate into practical action, helping embed the leave no one behind ethos into the fabric of humanitarian work in Cameroon.

The LNOB4 project continues to gain momentum as CUAPWD and its partners reaffirm their commitment to creating a future where inclusive humanitarian action is not a policy ideal, but a tangible and lived reality for all.
