Cameroon Armed Conflict: At least seven killed as Army ends another "cleansing" mission in Bui

The  Cameroon Army has confirmed the killing of at least seven persons as they end another mission in Bui Division. The mission christened "Operation Kumbo Clean" according to top military officials is aimed at cleaning the area of nonstate armed groups. Speaking in Kumbo headquarters  Bui  Division on Tuesday 15 June, 2021, the operations lead Colonel Matiang Charles disclosed that for slightly over 30days that the mission lasted, seven persons died.

 Three which he called Generals killed by the army and four soldiers killed by nonstate armed fighters. He named the three Generals as Thunder in Kikaikom, Abakwa in Meluf and Spider. No names were mentioned for the killed soldiers. The brigade chief also noted that several nonstate armed fighters were killed during the operation while wounded soldiers have been hospitalised. 

www.observer237.com reports that apart from the lives lost,  "5-AK47, 10 bikes, charms, equipment used to produce improvised explosives, dane guns and contraband fuel" have been seized. 


The Commander of the 5th joint Military Region General Nka Valere has congratulated his men for the job done during this phase of the operation. 


With Kumbo being the epicenter of the armed conflict in the North West, the Commander has announced that the operation will continue. He has identified the local language and topography as major challenges to overcome.
