It is the first time both teams are meeting in a competitive game since their ascension into the top tier championship.

YOSA gained admission into the elite league in 2010 and PWD in 2017 after dropping to the regional leagues in the 80s. They both enjoy some fair popularity though PWD which presents itself as a community team seems to have more support from the cross generational fan base build since creation in the 60s.

Both teams met each other in the NW regional league between 2004 and 2010 not fewer than six times with known instances of open confrontations between fans. The teams were expected to meet each other in the top flight championship during the 2018/2019 season but due to a pooling system instituted by the defunct Cameroon professional football league. That did not happen since both teams played in separate pools. They have been involved in pre-season friendlies which have produced great spectator attendance

The midweek fixture will therefore be the beginning of an all new level of rivalry between the sides in a city with a strong passion for football.

The fixture comes on the heels of two separate results for the sides obtained during the fourth day of play. While PWD lost to visiting UMS of Loum 0-1, YOSA produced a classical spectacle that ended with a 2-0 against Feutcheu FC of Djiko Banjoun.

After two matches played with two pending programming PWD ranks 16th on the league table with 3pts while late Yong Francis's YOSA ranks seventh with 6pts assembled from four games played.
