The Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, has officially inaugurated the Regional Hospital Annex in Nkambe, reinforcing the facility's growing role as a centre for specialised healthcare in Donga Mantung Division and neighbouring localities.
The inauguration took place during the Governor’s working visit to Nkambe, where he chaired the first regional administrative coordination and security meeting of 2026, bringing together Senior Divisional Officers, Divisional Officers, security officials and other administrative authorities from across the seven divisions of the North West Region.
The ceremony marked another step in the gradual transformation of healthcare services in an area that for years depended heavily on referrals to hospitals in Kumbo, Bamenda, Bafoussam and other distant cities for specialised treatment.

The Nkambe District Hospital was upgraded to a Regional Hospital Annex in February 2023 by the Ministry of Public Health with the objective of bringing advanced medical services closer to the population. Since then, the facility has undergone continuous expansion through infrastructure improvements, equipment upgrades and the introduction of specialised services.
Recent investments have significantly strengthened the institution's capacity. Under the 2026 Public Investment Budget of the North West Regional Assembly, the hospital received modern medical equipment valued at 100 million FCFA, including mobile and fixed X-ray machines, anaesthesia machines with ventilators, patient monitors, oxygen concentrators, surgical sets and emergency response equipment.
The facility has also benefited from the construction of a modern emergency and triage centre financed by the North West Regional Assembly, while local elites and development partners have continued to support efforts aimed at improving healthcare delivery.
Only weeks before the inauguration, Member of Parliament Hon. Ngala Gérard donated medical equipment worth 38 million FCFA to the hospital, further boosting its operational capacity and improving working conditions for healthcare personnel.
The combined investments are expected tot help reduce referrals, improve emergency response and expand access to specialised medical care for thousands of residents across Donga Mantung Division and neighbouring areas.
The Governor's visit to Nkambe attracted significant attention across the division, with administrative authorities, traditional rulers, cultural groups and residents turning out to welcome the regional delegation.
The successful hosting of the high-profile regional gathering drew praise for the Mayor of Nkambe Council, Musa Shey Nfor, whose efforts, alongside those of the Senior Divisional Officer, security officials, traditional authorities and local administrative teams, contributed significantly to the smooth organisation of the event.

From logistical preparations to coordination of reception activities and support for visiting delegations, local authorities worked extensively to ensure that the town was ready to host one of the region's most important administrative meetings.
Speaking during the security and administrative coordination meeting, Governor Lele Lafrique described the security and administrative situation in the North West Region during the first half of 2026 as satisfactory.
He highlighted the successful completion of the 2025/2026 academic year, activities linked to the visit of Pope Leo XIV and recent military operations as indicators of progress. The Governor also praised the impact of the Ring Road on development and peacebuilding efforts in Donga Mantung Division.
For his part, Mayor Musa Shey Nfor used the opportunity to draw attention to persistent challenges affecting the municipality, notably water and electricity shortages. The Governor assured local authorities that the concerns would receive appropriate attention.
