Rev. Fr. Beltus Asanji Tabefor has been appointed Director of Television and Radio Evangelium, Archdiocesan Director of Communications, and Supervisor of Arise, in a major reshuffle of priests serving the Archdiocese of Bamenda for the 2026/2027 pastoral year.
The appointment was contained in the annual transfers and appointments of priests signed by Archbishop Andrew Fuanya Nkea of Bamenda and the Archdiocesan Chancellor and Notary, Rev. Fr. Derek Che Choh.
The new assignment places Fr. Beltus Asanji at the helm of one of the most strategic sectors of the Archdiocese at a time when the Catholic Church in Cameroon is seeking to expand its digital presence and strengthen evangelisation through modern communication platforms.
Rev Fr. Beltus Asanji is already a familiar face within Church and media circles. Born on September 22, 1984, he received his priestly formation at St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Bambui, and has served in several pastoral and communication roles within the Archdiocese. Until his latest appointment, he was Parish Priest of Our Lady of Mercy Parish Manda, Bamenda.
His appointment comes barely months after he played a prominent role in preparations for the Apostolic Visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon, serving as one of the General Coordinators of Communication for the historic visit. In that capacity, he acted as a liaison between local and international media organisations and the papal visit organising committee.
His reputation as a communicator extends beyond ecclesiastical circles. In 2025, the Cameroon Journalists' Trade Union (CJTU) honoured him with an award for professionalism, outstanding performance and excellence in journalism during activities marking World Press Freedom Day in the Northwest Region.
The recognition highlighted his contributions as a digital communicator for the Archdiocese of Bamenda, a reporter for ACI Africa and a student of Communication and Development. Colleagues have often described him as a bridge between the Church and the media, committed to responsible storytelling and credible information dissemination.
Fr. Asanji is also an author. In 2024, he published God's Time is the Best, a book reflecting on his life experiences and encouraging young people to embrace patience, faith and trust in divine providence.

The appointments also bring a change in his pastoral assignment. After serving as Rector of Our Lady of Mercy Parish Manda in the Futru Deanery, he has been transferred to Ntaturu in the Mankon Deanery, from where he will carry out his new responsibilities. The move places him closer to the administrative and communication structures of the Archdiocese, positioning him to coordinate media activities.
His new appointment, however, comes with significant responsibilities and challenges.
Among them is the long-standing vision of establishing a fully operational Catholic television station for the Archdiocese of Bamenda. The project, initiated years ago under the leadership of the then communication director Rev. Fr. Tata Mbuy, has yet to reach full maturity despite considerable efforts and investments.
As Director of Television and Radio Evangelium, Rev. Fr. Asanji is expected to revitalise that vision and guide the Church's communication apostolate into a new era marked by digital transformation and growing competition for audiences.
Beyond infrastructure, he will also have to navigate the realities of communication in a region still affected by the socio-political crisis. The Church remains one of the few institutions trusted by communities across conflict lines, making communication both a pastoral and peacebuilding responsibility.
The challenge of combating misinformation, maintaining public trust, amplifying messages of peace and reconciliation, and protecting the Church's voice in a highly polarised environment will form part of his mandate.
Another key test will come after the excitement surrounding Pope Leo XIV's visit subsides. Sustaining public engagement, preserving the momentum generated by the papal visit and translating renewed interest into long-term evangelisation efforts will require strategic leadership and innovation.
The appointment signals the confidence Archbishop Andrew Nkea has placed in one of the Archdiocese's most visible communicators. As the Church continues to adapt to changing media realities, Rev Fr. Beltus' blend of pastoral experience, communication expertise and journalistic credibility is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Catholic media in the Bamenda Archdiocese.
