Ze Amvene Geneviève, first woman to submit Presidential candidacy for Cameroon’s 2025 Poll

In a political landscape long dominated by men, a new chapter was written this Wednesday in Ebolowa as Ze Amvene Geneviève etched her name into history books. The independent candidate became the first woman to officially submit her candidacy for Cameroon’s 12 October 2025 presidential election.

The symbolic act took place at the Regional Delegation of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) for the South Region, becoming an moment not only in her personal political journey but in the broader narrative of female political participation in the country.

Geneviève's submission makes her the fourth candidate to formally enter the race, following earlier declarations by Bertin Kisob, Maître Akere Muna, and Kamgan-Tan Eric. But more notably, her candidacy introduces a female voice in a male-dominated field, injecting fresh perspective into an election season already buzzing with ambition, scrutiny, and change.

With less than three months to the polls, Ze Amvene’s decision to contest as an independent signals a bold break from traditional political machinery.

The choice of Ebolowa rather than the national ELECAM headquarters in Yaoundé for the submission also drew attention. Some see it as a deliberate effort to decentralise the narrative of power and represent voices often overlooked in the national debate.

While her full political programme is yet to be unveiled, Ze Amvene Geneviève’s entry into the race is already galvanising conversations around gender, inclusivity, and the evolving nature of leadership in Cameroon.

As the race to October 12 intensifies, her bold step may pave the way for other women to follow suit thus challenging long-held norms and widening the path toward a more representative political future.
