The Mayor of Bamenda III, Fongu Cletus Tanwe, was present in Mbelem to oversee the installation ceremony. He was received by the Councilor for the area Forche Robert, Quarter Head John Ngu, Assistant Suh Sylvester, and a cross-section of the Mbelem population who turned out to show their support for the project.

According to the Council, the bridge project marks a major milestone in the area’s development. The installation took place on Wednesday 25 June 2025. The bridge is being constructed along the road that links Ntefikih and Mbelem on the road through the Quarter Hall to Firewood Junction (Mile 6 Nkwen).

The project is being carried out after the Mbelem Development Association, had played a key role in managing infrastructure in the community. Once the bridge is completed, the same stretch of road will undergo maintenance to further improve accessibility and transportation in the area.

Meanwhile, in Nkwen, the rehabilitation of the Mile 5 Junction to Ntambang road got underway. This vital stretch, heavily used by motorists and traders, is expected to significantly reduce road accidents, improve access to essential services, and stimulate local economic activity.

Speaking on the importance of the project, Council officials stated that the upgraded road would enhance public safety, ease movement, and promote community development through improved access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.

“These projects are not just about infrastructure , they are about improving the quality of life for our people and connecting communities in a safer, more efficient way,” Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe said.

Both projects form part of a broader strategy by the Bamenda III Council to modernise local infrastructure and address long-standing development needs. Residents have welcomed the initiatives, expressing hope that the improvements will lead to greater economic opportunities and better living conditions in the municipality.
