CPDM cronies surface with Tubah Radio

By Bakah Derick

Some diehard militants of the ruling Cameroon’s People Democratic Movement CPDM have surfaced with a radio station in Tubah Subdivision of Mezam Division in the North West Region. The new radio station christened Tubah Voice which saw the light of day March 18, 2017 broadcasting from Bambui in Tuah Subdivision is an initiative of one Dr Ndonwie Peter Muma attempted CPDM section President and militant for Mezam 1C.
Though financed up to 75% of over FCFA 20million by the World Association for Christian Communication WACC through Dr Ndonwie’s Ghana based non-governmental organisation Pan African Organisation for Research and Prevention of Violence against Women and Children, Tubah Voice has a management and administrative team that looks purely political.
The Pioneer Station Manager is another CPDM crony to the core in the Region. Akouyu Beatrice a Teacher by training and founder of a pro CPDM group better known as Friends of Chantal Biya has been appointed has been appointed to the function while Prof Peter Abety, former Minister, Board Chair of the GCE board and CPDM Section President for Mezam V is the Chairperson of the Management board.
As if to say he was worried about the huge presence of CPDM bigwigs at the helm of the radio, the SDF Mayor for Tubah while addressing the radio inaugural ceremony observed that the radio must be apolitical. According to Tanjong Martin Musungong, the radio should not be used indiscriminately for political propaganda. The politician also used the event to caution management to recruit staff based on competence not connections so that the radio will be law abiding.
The Divisional Officer to Tubah Subdivision who skillfully avoided a comment on the radio and politics noted that Tubah Voice should be a radio for women and children. According to Garga Hadji most of the programs on the radio should be in the local languages that make up the subdivision as the management serves with integrity, responsibility and commitment. While encouraging the people of his division to make use of the radio and participate in its programs, the administrators added that the radio must be a tool for the promotion of the cultural heritage of the Tubah people and neighboring communities.
Speaking earlier the promoter of the baby radio noted that the facility he is putting at the service of the community of Tubah and environs is costing over FCFA 20million. The international philanthropist of Nkwen origin with activities spanning several countries around the world especially Ghana where he runs the Pan African Organisation for Research and Prevention of Violence against Women and Children will explain that the community radio will fill the wide gab commercial radios are not interested in like education, health, violence against women and girls, agriculture and others. Adding that his radio was authorized by Cameroon’s Ministry of Communication in November of 2016, Dr Ndonwie says the arrival of the radio signals a new dawn in Tubah Subdivision during which the rural masses will have the means to make use of valuable information. The promoter has also announced the arrival of a TV station in the days ahead.
Though Dr Ndonwie Peter will maintain that the radio is apolitical during an interview with the Guardian Post, other political party opinions are already saying that it is one of the CPDM projects aimed at taking over the SDF run Tubah Council (the University Council).
The conspicuous absence of the Paramount Fon of Bambui HRH Angafor Mombo-oh III and other Fons of the Subdivision like Bambili, Kedjom Keku, Kedjom Kitinguh, Fingui and Bafukum was noticed by many. Though likened to poor organization of invitations, the presence of some traditional authorities from Nkwen home of the promoter already puts on the line the relationship between the radio and the people of the subdivision who already fear that most of the employees are Nkwen and not from the subdivision.
