“POLITICS IN GOD’S NAME” NORTHWEST FONS UNION PRAY FOR PEACE

The Northwest Fons Union NOWEFU Friday 9th August 2013 successfully moved Renee Emmanuel Sadii Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization from the Nation’s Capital Yaounde as personal representative of the Head of State Paul Biya to the Northwest Region for an ecumenical service.
The Bamenda Congress hall which was the ceremonial ground was jam packed ahead of the Prayer session. This inter religious prayer had to do with praying for peace in Cameroon before during and after the September 30, municipal and legislative elections. The Muslims and Christian denominations like the Roman Catholic Church, Baptist church, Presbyterian Church (PCC) and then the Full Gospel   had an opportunity to present the stands on peace related issues bearing on their guiding books and doctrine here the Quran and the Bible. To the muslim Imam Peace is the only Solution to Our problems. While soliciting the creation of an Inter Religious Council in Cameroon as a way to narrow the gap bwtween the Muslims and Christians as an important element of peace, the Imam called on the election management body ELECAM to exercise justice during the elecams. The Rev JUM Ignatius of the PCC and Rev Engelbert Kofon of the Catholic Church presented peace as a prerequisite for development.
These messages were made to digest the souls of participants with well suiting songs from groups like the Emanuel Choir, Trinity Choir, Zion Choir and more. At this level everyone seemed to have been consumed by the church spirit but this was going to last for a short time.
The reading of a motion of support by Fon Dr Akam to the head of state did not go well with many amongst them the Chairman of Cameroons most populous political party the Social Democartic Front SDF, Ni John Fru Ndi.
“If it were religious why should they send a motion of support with me sitting down to Mr. Paul Biya”
This amongst other reasons made critics to quickly describe the ecumenical service as a political rally and others “politics in God’s name”
Hon Fon Teche Njei President of NOWEFU seemingly disagreed with this view reason why in his opening remarks he described the palace as a “melting pot with Fons as Tenants” The Senator went on to encourage his colleague Fons to receive all political parties and give them blessing.
The man of the day was Renee Emmanuel sadii. To him for the Fons of the Northwest Region to have organized an ecumenical service to pray for peace before during and after the September 30 polls “demonstrated a high sense of responsibility and patriotism”.
To the minister noting meaning can be achieved without peace and social cohesion. Everyone he ended must work for peace in Cameroon.
