The Bambui Palace on Wednesday, 17 July 2026, formally received German engineer Marvin, as part of ongoing efforts to modernise the Bambui Water Authority (BAWA).
Accompnaied to the palace by the Mayor of Bamenda III Council, Fongu Cletus Tanwe, the engineer was welcomed by HRH Fon Angafor Momboo-h III, traditional authorities, village leaders, members of the Bambui Water Authority and a cross section of residents who turned out with cultural dance groups to celebrate what can be described as a new chapter in the community water story.
The royal reception came at the close of a day of technical fieldwork during which Marvin inspected major BAWA installations, including water catchments, filtration facilities and storage reservoirs. The visit forms part of feasibility studies that will guide the rehabilitation and expansion of the ageing water infrastructure.
The reception reflected years of engagement between Bambui and Bamenda III Council.
The journey began after the Fon of Bambui visited the Bamenda III Council Water Project and expressed admiration for the transformation achieved through the partnership between the council and German NGO Trinkwasser für Kamerun. That visit opened discussions which have now resulted in the arrival of German technical expertise in Bambui.
Speaking during the ceremony, HRH Fon Angafor Momboo-h III expressed profound appreciation to Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe for facilitating the relationship with the German partners and for remaining committed to accompanying the community throughout the process.
As a symbol of gratitude and friendship, the palace dressed Marvin in traditional Bambui attire, formally welcoming him into the community.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Fongu Cletus Tanwe congratulated the traditional institution and the people of Bambui for remaining united behind the water project.
He praised the Fon and community leaders for their persistence and willingness to invest time, energy and local resources into improving access to potable water.
The Mayor reaffirmed his commitment to continue accompanying Bambui throughout the process until the project becomes a reality.
He explained that his role has simply been to connect communities like Bambui, Mbessa and Nkwen with partners capable of providing technical expertise, adding that development succeeds when traditional institutions, councils and international partners work together around a common objective.
According to him, the determination demonstrated by the Fon and the Bambui community made it easy to advocate for the project before the German partners.
The feasibility mission comes at a critical time for the Bambui Water Authority.
Originally designed for a much smaller population, the system now struggles to meet the demands of a rapidly expanding community driven largely by the growth of the University of Bamenda and other institutions.
BAWA Officials believe the studies being undertaken by Marvin will identify practical solutions for increasing production capacity, improving treatment facilities and expanding distribution networks to serve present and future generations.
Beyond the technical inspections, the ceremony demonstrated the importance Bambui attaches to water as a driver of health, education and development.
The presence of traditional rulers, youth groups, women associations and cultural dancers reflected a collective commitment to securing reliable water supply for the village.
The visit according to the BAWA authorities is the beginning of a partnership they hope will transform one of the most essential public services in Bambui.
