Ahead of the International Women’s Day to be observed on march 8, 2026, the immediate past Member of Parliament Fobi Nchinda Simon has called for stronger, practical action to advance the rights and wellbeing of women and girls in Bamenda and Bali.
Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon,In a message marking the day, the MP recognised the resilience and determination of women across the constituency but stressed that meaningful progress will depend on deliberate policies and community action that expand education, safety and economic opportunity.
The call comes under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action for all Women and Girls,” which he said must guide the next phase of development efforts in the area.
According to the MP, programmes he supported over the years have already focused on empowering women and encouraging girls to remain in school, an approach he described as essential to long term community development.
“When women thrive, our entire community moves forward,” the message noted, pointing to the importance of sustained investment in women’s economic and educational advancement.
But the statement also acknowledged that many women and girls continue to face structural barriers, from limited access to opportunities to concerns over safety and fair treatment.
To close these gaps, the MP urged coordinated action by public institutions, civil society groups and local communities. He pointed to education for girls, economic empowerment initiatives for women and stronger protection of rights as key areas that must be strengthened.
He said the goal must be a society where dignity, fairness and opportunity are guaranteed for every woman and girl, not treated as occasional privileges.
Observed globally every 8 March, International Women’s Day has increasingly shifted from celebration to accountability, challenging leaders to translate commitments into measurable change.
For Bamenda and Bali, the message from Fobi Nchinda Simon places the focus squarely on solutions, arguing that sustained support for education, economic empowerment and equal rights will determine whether the next generation of women and girls can fully realise their potential.
