NW/SW Armed Conflict: Many flee as government steps up crack down on activists, sympathisers

  By Akih Celine As the crisis that has been rocking the North West and South West regions, which has spiraled into an armed conflict, rages on, the government has stepped up its crackdown on all those suspected to be activists or sympathisers to the Anglophone cause. In this light, security operatives have been indiscriminately arresting Anglophone activists and suspected activists. This has caused many of them to flee into hiding and the whereabouts of many is not known. Sources say those arrested are being tortured and detained under horrendous and inhuman conditions. Some have reportedly died in detention. A case of an activist, whose whereabouts is no known is that of 30- year-old Mamfe-based Pastor Ekah Ekah. He is said to have gone missing since december 2016. Reports say Pastor Ekah Ekah and his friend, Oru Thomas, took part in a protest march organised by the Social Democratic Front, SDF, in Buea in 2016. Unknown gunmen kill, block road in Sabga hill (Bamenda – Ndop road) *Bamensing inhabitants flee following proximity to scene

Not less than one person has been killed following the blocking of the road in the Sabga hills on the Bamenda-Ndop road by unknown gunmen. The man confirmed dead was found lying by the road on the Sabga hill on the early hours of Saturday July 7. It made rounds that the person found dead was a Gendarme officer and had been killed by unknown gunmen who had blocked the road around that area. According to information we cannot independently confirm, the unknown gunmen mounted a control check point presenting themselves as Ambazonia defense forces demanding for identification papers from road users. It emerged that the officer who dressed in civilian wear was pulled out and shut from an interurban transport vehicle.
