Community Development: MTN Foundation provides Mazare Population, Far North Region with portable Water

Survey Identifies Migrant Challenges Behind Celebrating Mother’s Day on Different Dates Globally

Guest writer Lizzy Owade; Kenya Yaounde, May 28, 2023 – A new survey from a leading digital remittances company within has found that 44% of migrants wish that Mother’s Day was celebrated on the same day around the world - pointing to the cultural difficulties faced by those who live in a different country to their mother. Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates across the world, ranging from the second Sunday of February in Norway to the 15th of October in Malawi. The multi-country survey was conducted in February with 3,000 participants, with a focus on understanding how migrants celebrate their relationship with their mothers.  Mother’s Day Timings  The most popular dates for Mother’s Day celebrations are the fourth week of Lent in March (such as in the United Kingdom and Nigeria) and the second Sunday in May (such as in the United States of America, South Africa, and Australia). Gender-based Violence: 100 HOFNA trained Psychosocial counselors set for 'battle' in conflict affected communities

By Bakah Derick  In an effort to combat gender-based violence in conflict affected communities in the North West Region of Cameroon, Hope for the Needy Association (HOFNA) has trained and inserted 100 trauma and psychosocial counselors in communities. The new set of counselors who have been drawn from communities where they provide leadership either in community based  groups, schools, traditional cycles or local administrative authorities are expected to provide assistance to persons with mild and moderate forms of trauma.    The intensive trainings have focused on ‘trauma healing and psychosocial support for community peacebuilding’ with the purpose to ‘raise awareness on trauma and the need for systemic and holistic community-based healing through knowledge and use of psychosocial support in order to reduce the incidence of gender-based violence in crisis and conflict situations.’  According to the Executive Director of HOFNA, the project is inspired by the fact that men

By Bakah Derick  The Administration of North West Cooperative Association (NWCA) Ltd has taken steps to work with coffee farmers of Mbaw plane under the Donga Mantung Area Cooperative Union.  Installation of hauling machine in Bini village   The apex coffee cooperative structure in the region made her intention to unite with the farmers concrete on Monday 15 May 2023 with the installation of a mobile hauling machine in the area. Through a delegation to Sabongari headed by Plant Engineer Njeshu Godlove, NCWA Ltd installed the hauler in Bini village about 12km away from the central town.  “We took into consideration the electricity challenges this community is facing and that is why we provided a hauling machine with a diesel engine instead of an electric motor. By Bakah Derick  The Fon of Nkwen has made an impressive presence at this year’s edition of the Wimbum Cultural and Development Association (WICUDA) Bamenda Cultural Festival – Ndee-rlah 2023.  His Royal Majesty Fon Azehfor III arrived the event ground at the S-bend neigbourhood in Bamenda III Subdivision on Sunday 14 May 2023 with a delegation of not fewer than 150 to the admiration of many who showed up for the Wimbum cultural party.  Fon of Nkwen addressing Ndee-rlah 202 3 Speaking during the event, the Fon of Nkwen was categorical about the peace loving character of the Wimbum people in his community.
